Dilip Payra (Sohm) is a multifaceted artist whose passion for storytelling spans film, television, and documentaries. His artistic odyssey began with photography, where he honed his skills under the guidance of Indian photography legend Benu Sen. From there, he seamlessly transitioned into the world of cinema and television. As an associate director, Sohm contributed to several noteworthy films, including PRIME TIME, NAMEPLATE, SAAT PAKE BANDHA, etc. His collaboration with acclaimed cinematographer and director Dinen Gupta left an indelible mark on Indian television. Notably, he also played a crucial role as Second Assistant Director in the Hindi feature film MICHAEL, which garnered international recognition at the Toronto Film Festival and Asian Film Festival.
Sohm’s creative journey extended to Ravi Ojha Production House, where he directed projects like OGO BODHU SUNDORI and ROILO PHERAR NIMANTRAN. Later, as a creative director at Surinder Films, he steered successful TV serials such as DHANNI MEYE, MEGHER PALOK, MUKHOSH MANUSH, DUI BHUBONER PAARE and KHUSHI. He has taken various television projects of different production companies to a high level of success. Notably, SONAR HORIN, CHENA ACHENA, SIMANA CHHARIYE, KHONA, RAKTO PALASH, BASUNDHORA, DURGA, PAYER TOLAR MATI, JAO PAKHI, ICHCHHEDANA, CHARULATA, 21SE PAA, ADORINI, etc. Beyond the screen, Dilip’s expertise shines in directing documentaries and corporate projects sponsored by the Government of West Bengal and India. Notable among these is the thought-provoking documentary titled “CHILKIGARH KANAK DURGA BIODIVERSITY HERITAGE SITE.” In summary, Dilip Payra (Sohm) embodies the fusion of creativity, technical prowess, and a relentless pursuit of storytelling excellence.
